Pruning

Pruning is a horticultural practice that alters the form and growth of a plant. Based on aesthetics and science, pruning can also be considered preventive maintenance. Pruning can best be used to encourage trees to develop a strong structure and reduce the likelihood of damage during severe weather.

There are many reasons to prune:

  • to form: control plant size, keep evergreens well-proportioned, remove unwanted branches, waterspouts, suckers.

  • plant health: remove dead or dying branches injured by disease, severe insect infestation, animals, storms, or other adverse mechanical damage.

  • for security purposes: remove dead branches,
